FAQs

Here, we aim to provide you with answers to some common queries about RediMan Wellness and our therapy services. If you have a question that is not addressed here, feel free to reach out to us directly.

A clinical psychologist is a mental health professional who has received training in assessing, diagnosing, and providing appropriate interventions for clients. It's important to note that clinical psychologists do not prescribe medications as part of their interventions; instead, they utilise psychological techniques such as psychodynamic therapy.

In South Africa, individuals must complete a Masters’ degree, pass a national board examination, complete an internship, and engage in community service before being able to practice independently. In addition to providing psychotherapy, psychologists also engage in various activities, including psychological testing, research, and teaching.

It is important to debunk the misconception that individuals consult psychologists solely because they are deemed "crazy”. People from all walks of life, facing a variety of personal struggles, collaborate with clinical psychologists. This may involve learning strategies to manage stress, improving relationships, or navigating specific stressors and crises.

Some individuals engage in psychotherapy or group interventions to further their personal growth and development, even if they are already content and happy with their lives. Seeking guidance from a psychologist provides a secure and confidential space for individuals to express themselves.

We offer employee wellness progammes. In addition, our services also include comprehensive psycho-legal evaluations for:
• Neuro and cognitive psychological assessments
• Care and contact / custody and access assessments
• Impact of unfair dismissal from employment.

Choosing to seek guidance from a psychologist or participate in therapy is a deeply personal choice. If you have never consulted with a psychologist before, it might seem unfamiliar or cause some nervousness since we typically keep our challenges to ourselves or confide in our loved ones. It can be challenging to open up to someone you are not acquainted with, and you may feel uncertain about how to begin or if you can effectively communicate your story. These feelings are completely normal and acceptable, and after the initial session, you may likely experience a sense of relief.

As clinical psychologists, we have received extensive training to support you in your journey, offering guidance and understanding as we work together to find solutions that are tailored to your unique needs. We appreciate that this journey may be difficult, but we are committed to walking alongside you, occasionally challenging you, and helping you see things from different perspectives. Our ultimate goal is to assist you in moving in the direction you desire, aligning with your therapy goals.

It's important to note that this process differs from casual conversations with friends. Speaking with someone who is not directly involved in your life can bring both fulfilment and relief. It would be beneficial to consider that attending several sessions before experiencing a sense of change or resolution in your struggle is crucial.

Additionally, it is essential to keep in mind that consistent and frequent consultations are likely to yield more favourable outcomes. It can be challenging to overcome difficulties and make progress if the client frequently misses sessions or varies in their level of commitment to the therapeutic process.

Typically, the first session involves creating a comfortable environment for introductions and for your psychologist to gain insight into your background and difficulties. We may enquire about your current and past experiences to better comprehend your unique therapeutic requirements.

The primary objective of the initial consultation is to establish a rapport between you and your clinical psychologist and address any concerns regarding confidentiality and administrative procedures. Subsequently, a clinical interview will be conducted to gather basic demographic information and thoroughly understand your presenting issue and clinical history.

Therapy sessions generally occur every week. When therapy is just beginning, this time frame is preferred since it gives the client time to process the lessons learned and build momentum. The number of sessions will most certainly alter over time, though. The nature of the specific concerns at hand and the level of therapy will determine this.

This is a difficult question to answer as each person and relationship is unique. Therapy involves the commitment of time, money, energy, and inner work; it is therefor crucial that you take time to consider this undertaking.

The duration of therapy is typically decided collaboratively between the client and the clinical psychologist. Solution-focused therapy usually lasts between 6 and 20 weeks, while long-term insight-orientated therapy can span over years. The duration of treatment will vary depending on the specific issue and the agreed-upon treatment plan. It is recommended to have a discussion with your clinical psychologist after they have assessed and fully understood the presenting problem.

Confidentiality refers to the ethical responsibility of a clinical psychologist to not disclose any information about a patient without their permission. All patients are entitled to privacy and confidentiality.

According to the ethical guidelines of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), patient information can only be shared with consent. Confidentiality may be breached in three instances: (1) if there is a risk to themself; (2) if there is a risk to others; or (3) if instructed to do so by a court of law or legislation.

It may be necessary to discuss certain information with other members of the healthcare team, but this would always be discussed with you beforehand.

Psychologists always explore alternative options before considering breaking confidentiality in situations where there is a danger to yourself or someone else.

In the rare event that confidentiality is breached, you will be informed beforehand. Therefore, as a client, you will always be aware of any breach of confidentiality.

Cancellations: Please allow at least 24 hours’ notice when canceling a session. Sessions cancelled without 24-hour notice will be charged in full.

A 24-hour notice is requested if you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment. If you need to reschedule, you can get in touch with us via email, text, phone, or WhatsApp, among other channels. No-shows or late cancellations will incur fees.

We do understand that sometimes circumstances beyond your control may prevent you from arriving at the scheduled appointment.

We understand that life happens, and sometimes you may need to cancel your appointment. We ask for a minimum of 24 hours' notice for cancellations.

We know that canceling an appointment can be difficult, and we want to assure you that we are here to support you in your journey. If you need to cancel, please reach out to us as soon as possible. We will do our best to work with you to reschedule your appointment for a time that is convenient for you.

If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged in full. This fee is equal to the cost of your session. We understand that this may be inconvenient, but it is necessary to cover the cost of the lost appointment time.

We kindly ask for your understanding that cancelled or missed appointments result in a loss of valuable time for both the psychologist and the client. When a client cancels with little to no notice, it leaves an opening that could have been filled by another client who urgently requires an appointment.

By adhering to this policy, we can ensure the provision of high-quality psychotherapy to all clients.

Please be aware that the cancellation fee is payable in cash and cannot be reimbursed by the medical aid.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
