Our Online Therapy

We offer online therapy (Teletherapy), which is the use of an online medium to provide therapy by seeing an online psychologist. In essence, it applies the same psychological principles as face-to-face therapy within an online format. We make use of a secure platform, Zoom and we lock all sessions to ensure that the session is safe and secure.
Our online therapy offers the following advantages
  • Our online therapy is accessible from anywhere.
  • It further allows added privacy to clients concerned about seeing a familiar face in the reception area.
  • It makes therapy more convenient for people who cannot make it to a face-to-face session due to:
    • Frequent travelling
    • Inflexible working hours
    • Being based in a more rural area with limited access to psychological resources
    • Inability for clients to leave their homes due to disability or underlying health conditions
    • Challenges with transportation

  • Technological issues may also interrupt sessions.
  • Some clients struggle to build a therapeutic relationship on an online platform. They subsequently report feeling disconnected behind the screen.
  • If you share a living space with many other people, it might also be difficult to find a quiet and confidential space.
Online therapy is, however, not suitable for all cases. Face-to-face therapy may consequently be a better fit if the client is experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Furthermore, one of the aspects that determine the success of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. If a client finds it difficult to establish rapport, trust or build relationships, face-to-face sessions might be a more suitable option. Based on the first session, we will also make a recommendation on the suitability of the medium.
For online therapy sessions, we recommend the following:
  • Please find a quiet and well-lit area that is free from distractions.
  • It is important for you to feel safe and comfortable in your environment.
  • Additionally, please ensure that the session cannot be overheard by others.
  • Using headphones can help clients hear clearly and block out any surrounding noises, while also ensuring that only one side of the conversation can be heard for maximum privacy.
  • To further enhance privacy, clients may consider playing white noise near the door.
  • Before starting, clients are requested to test their device's camera and microphone settings. The device must be positioned at the client’s eye level to optimise comfort and minimise camera movement.
  • We recommend that clients connect to a private and stable network to ensure security.
  • Clients should also consider who may have access to their computer and personal information from where they are located, as it could potentially compromise confidentiality.
  • Clients should also only use a computer that they trust and where they can ensure their privacy.
  • Lastly, clients are reminded to activate 'Do Not Disturb' or 'Silent' mode on all your devices to avoid any interruptions.
